1986 Away – Never Worn

The new England away kit was launched in 1986 but was never worn in competitive action by the English players. The shirt was introduced as the first alternative kit for the 1986 World Cup worn in Mexico but England never needed it as they wore the home shirt all the way through. Although the shirt was not worn in an official match, England did wear it two years later in 1988 in a warm up match against Aylesbury United which England won 7-0 before Euro 88.

The England first Alternative kit for the 1986 World Cup contains a predominately red shirt with a large red V neck collar that contains a thin white and navy trim throughout. The design of the shirt is styled with two similar tones of red running in vertical stripes throughout. There is also a thin white pinstripe that runs along the shoulders. Manufacturers Umbro place their white logo in the top right of the shirt whilst the England national crest is situated in the top left with the FIFA World Cup wording below in navy blue.
